Legend has it that a Buddhist monk from neighboring Sikkim was passing through the gardens, and stopped for a rest. He plucked a few leaves from a tea plant nearby and began chewing on it. Overwhelmed by its refreshing quality, he is said to have exclaimed "Runglee Rungliot", meaning "thus far and no further". His quest for fine tea had come to an end. The name stuck and Runglee Rungliot continues to be famous for its fabulous teas. Teas from this estate are noted for their fruity-floral aroma. The estate boasts a plantation area of 180 Hectares, and produces about 150 tons of premium quality orthodox teas throughout the year. Located on a mid-elevation hill, this garden is considered as one of the most scenic tea estates of Darjeeling.
