Tasting Notes

From our Chief Tea Taster
Submit
Aroma
Marked by notes of burnt wood, unripe tree fruit, smoky with subtle hint of red berries
Appearance
Dark Amber
Taste
A full-bodied, brisk cup which starts with pronounced notes of burnt wood interlaced with a subtle earthy character which hums along throughout.

Pleasant hints of astringency is discernible towards the middle and around the edges from the smoky and firewood flavors; which however is balanced by pleasant raw fruity tones towards the finish.

A savoury aftertaste of red berries leaves a radiant feel on the palate.

Usually love your teas

I usually am a bit conservative and order the same type of tea but this time I tried your generic Darjeeling black tea because my tea was not available.

I was a bit disappointed because I usually associate Darjeeling teas with aroma and flavour and this time the two generic teas (named Darjeeling and something else) I got were more like Assam teas (too strong and bitter) and not really my cup of tea, I will probably try and mix them or try a lesser amount and play around with them because I hate wastage.

No somkeyness

Same experience as JEffery Abrams no smoke at all. However, I had a trial of this tea before and it was AMAZING.
So, I believe something went wrong with batch 231123/01 packed 23-NOV-2023

Teabox Review My History with tea

To Teabox

I generally do not give reviews because I end up being asked for them from a hundred different websites for stuff I haven’t bought. But here I obviously have made an exception to that rule.

Before I get into the teas I bought from you, I’d like to give you my history with tea. When I was 15 (back in 1965) I found 4 tins of loose leaf tea from Wagner & Sons. They were Ch’a Ching, Earl Gray, Darjeeling & English Breakfast. I strictly followed their instructions and found I was drinking warm water. So I experimented and added a teaspoon of tea to each cup and found there was some flavor there. I added another teaspoon and I was infatuated with the flavor. When my tins ran out I could not find a store that sold loose leaf tea.

But in 1986 when I moved to a new city and I searched for a store that sold tea I found one. It sold loose leaf tea in an 8oz clear glass cup. Caffeinated tea had a black handle and decaffeinated tea had a green handle. When those ran out I went back to buy some more but the store was gone. A decade later I found a store (Teavana) in a city an hour from where I lived, but I would go there from time to time for various reasons and I always stopped by the Teavana store and bought some tea. Unfortunately, Starbucks bought Teavana, closed all their stores and shutdown their website.

I then went to the web and found several sites but the one I liked the best was Adagio only until recently they did not offer Darjeeling tea. But since you are most exclusively Darjeeling I have tried your tea. I bought 3 different versions of Darjeeling and I have done the same experiments I did way back in 1965 and I’ve found I still like the 3 teaspoons per cup. I have enjoyed all the varieties I bought from you and I’ll buy some again when I finish these. Only it will be a while. I have to watch my caffeine intake. So I drink one cup of your tea every other day. But I do like the way tea helps me relax and it is always a joy to my palate.

I look forward to trying another version of your tea (especially your Chi).

Sincerely,

Michael S. Spangler
