Darjeeling Spring Delight Tea

description

With clonal teas, one expects a familiar and consistent flavor. So, when a clonal tea chooses to spring a surprise, we just have to sit up and take notice. This first flush black tea is made from AV2 and PS 312 clones. What's stand out is that it's more caramelized than usual, leading to a greater complexity in flavors. Smooth, full bodied, and complex, it’s a tea that’s quite easy to appreciate and enjoy.

The liquor is smooth, and for a spring tea is unusually full-bodied. It's ample in the mouth and tastes immensely nutty. Tipped with a pleasant woody and raw guava finish.

Like a floral IPA in the best way

I genuinely look forward to mornings when I plan to drink this tea, and I went around making everyone smell my thermos. I love how IPAs smell (but not how they taste) and I kept feeling like this was the realization of the promise of that smell. Excellent with a squeeze of honey, especially if steeped a little too long (though I like my teas strong and don't mind the bitterness)

I found this a little weak; I used more tea than stated.

Delicious aroma

Likes : Great Aroma.

Brewed 4 minutes at 85C. The aroma of the tea, even before drinking, is like fresh wood chips or sawdust, but much sweeter, as if they had been soaked in honey. The intensity is of course magnified upon drinking. It has a pleasant astringency, and the delicious aroma is thirst inducing.

Do not steep for too long

Likes : Unique Flavor Profile.

Dislikes : Bitter if Over-Steeped.

The first time I tasted this I did not understand the tastings the others had written. I could not taste much lemon at all. I then tried steeping for only 2 minutes (about 90-95 celsius), and then I got more what the others was talking about: Slightly floral aroma. Hints of barley. Tastes a lot lemon, giving it a zingy caracter. Some astringency. In the finish the barley reappears, but still tastes lemon. My first cup (4 minutes at 90-95 celsius) smelled like a room full of malt, with maybe some hints of Rooibush. No floral carachter at all. The taste was more or less completely taken over by astringency, completely overshadowing the lemon. The finish was like I just had eaten a tree trunk. So there is a reason why it is recommended 4 instead of 5 minutes on this tea at 85-90 celsius...

Citrus explosion in a cup.

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile.

Dislikes : Bitter if Over-Steeped.

Best Served : Evening, Dessert Tea.

At excellent brew, I seem to be more partial to the chinary darjeeling with it stewed fruit notes but this does not disappoint, excellent in the evenings or after a heavy meal, never in the mornings, the dry leaves are a delight to look with a woody smoky aroma, and it brews in to a pale golden infusing with a copper hue, then you taste the citrus! The first time I drank it I was taken back, I am most thought it had been flavored with lemon peel this is one of the most "citrusy" darjeeling I have had. An excellent tea for those who like light citrusy teas with a clean short finish and a clean dryness would be excellent after a heavy meal with desert, as the short finish would not interfere with the meal.

One of our favourite Spring Darjeeling teas

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma, High Quality.

Best Served : Anytime.

This is a great spring Darjeeling, one of our favourites from 2015 so far. It has the perfect combination of floral, citrus and grassy notes without being too astringent.
