Glenburn Special Spring Oolong Tea

description

This is an early pluck oolong with the makings of a Taiwanese Baozhong, given how the leaves are almost unroasted and comprise of the ‘two leaves and a bud’ pluck. Because of the ample number of young buds in the leaf mix the cup has an enjoyable crispness and buoyant flavors. It's an oolong that's been made with patience and it shows in the cup – the flavors are long, restrained, and come together beautifully.

the experience

liquor

aroma

Floral, slightly sweet, and powdery, marked by notes of white orchid, hints of sweet pea and young grass.

appearance

Light gold

taste

The liquor is light and clean but ample in the mouth and quite rounded. It starts out light, and slightly ‘green’ but turns big and floral towards the middle. Here, white flowers emerge strong, accentuated by sweet-green notes, similar to pea shoots. The floral length lasts all the way into the finish. However, towards the end, notes of melon rind appear briefly, adding slight crispness to the cup. The second steep is just as flavorful.

COMPLEMENTS

Ideal with soft cheeses, like the Camembert, and a salad course.

dry leaf

Fresh and fragrant, marked by soft notes of orchid, fennel, nuts and hints of sugar cane.

appearance

A varied mix featuring 'bud and two leaves' pluck along with twisted blackish-brown leaves and bright green leaf flakes.

Fresh, marked by notes of string beans, dew-soaked grass, and wild flowers

Mix of bright green and powder green leaves with buds, some with brown hues.

Complex Palate of Spring Aromas

Likes : Freshness, High Quality.

Best Served : Morning, Afternoon.

Aromas of light fresh cut grass with a very light palate. Tannis are present but do not appear till the end. The finish is light but lingering.

Very delicate tea with definitely a floral taste. Beautiful colour in the cup and can take a longer steeping time than others. Liked it very much but not sure I would purchase at the full price.

A good cup of tea.

This tea has a unique pleasant flavor and aroma. It is not a classic ff, but it is arromatic. Flavor is a bit muted. So, this is best drunk plain. It is a good tea to try, but not the best value at the normal price. There are much better teas for the price. I would recommend if you are looking for something different, but try a sample first.

Quite Enjoyable

Use 2 tsp for this tea; it is light-weight, and hard to oversteep. The aroma is unique, the texture and flavor are multi-layered, and it leaves a lingering aftertaste. Definitely will take note of this tea and hope they keep it in their lineup.

I very much enjoyed looking at the silvery leaves before I brewed this tea in anticipation. Like the tea itself the leaves are extremely delicate and pretty. Once brewed it I was able to appreciate its lightness and complete harmony.

Delicacy incarnate

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma, Smooth Body.

Dislikes : Weak.

Best Served : Anytime.

This is an ethereal tea, delicate and suitable to be savoured in contemplation. Flavoursome, aromatic, gentle, it can be steeped a couple of times before it goes flat. If I had to note a fault, it is a rather weak body. But this is a watercolour rather than an oil painting.
