Okayti Classic Spring Black Tea

description

Located at 6,500 feet, Okayti is among the highest tea gardens in India. Here, the rigors of elevation combined with organic farming practices have helped produce some of most delicious Darjeeling teas. And this year too, their spring black tea lives up to the expectations. It’s well-styled and tastes fresh, bright, incredibly smooth and well-balanced - a near perfect spring tea.

A True Experience in a Cup

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma, High Quality, Unique Flavor Profile.

Best Served : Anytime, Dessert Tea.

The dried leaves emanate a sweet fragrance with the slightest earthiness underneath. I used two heaping teaspoons for a 15oz mug. Steeped at 193 for about five minutes. As soon as the hot water hit the leaves, a strong vegetal aroma rose from the cup. The spent leaves smell very similarly to spinach. The finished liquor has a delightful aroma, a sweet hoppy perfume scent that is mystifying and enchanting. The coloration is an inviting brown hue like most black teas. The taste has some wonderful play to it as the palate rocks between strong perfume notes. There is a baseline graininess to the cuppa that the perfume notes build from. The tea itself isn't sweet, but the sweetness from the aroma infringes on the palate and gives one the impression it's there. A absolutely fantastic change of pace black tea. Great as a self-standing tea to contemplate on the cuppa alone without food or distraction.

A More-Than-Okay Tea

Dislikes : Bitter if Over-Steeped.

Best Served : Anytime.

A lightly oxidized, greener-style Darjeeling that brews up the color of honey. Not my favorite tea, but certainly more than just "Okay". Very fresh-tasting and evocative of springtime. Watch your steeping time, this one can get a bit bitter if you let the leaves go too long.

More than okay!

I love this tea. Definitely towards the greener style darjeelings but with a lovely hint of muscatel. Fresh, bright with citrus/floral hints. Lovely anytime of the day.

Bright, Fresh, Fruity

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma.

Best Served : Anytime.

Yet another very nice first flush Darjeeling. The leaves are a beautiful blue tinged deep green. The head notes are floral, but the body notes and the finish are more citrusy/fruity. There may be more subtle or complex first flush Darjeelings out there, but drinking this tea is like being transported to dew covered alpine meadow.

One of my most favourite teas

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma.

Dislikes : Bitter if Over-Steeped.

Best Served : Evening.

This tea is for the people who like light, almost green tea like teas, it is really fresh and I really the green/yellow of the tea. It is great for the evening. Would definitely purchase this again.

"Shincha" of Darjeeling

Likes : Freshness, Great Aroma.

Best Served : Anytime.

If you like Japanese green tea, this is a great one to try. It is very fresh tasting, like shincha. Yet, instead of an umami flavor, it has a nice rounded, muscatel aroma. Putting this in my list of teas to come back to again.
