Sungma Classic Summer Muscatel Black Tea

Brimming with notes of oak wood and firewood, this muscatel is one that will be appreciated even by those with untrained palates. Its flavors are strong but not heady, smooth but not dull. There is a soft sour note in this tea which keeps the cup quite vibrant.

the experience

Lifted woody notes along with hints of anise and yellow flower.

The liquor is medium-bodied and smooth. Throughout the length of the cup, notes of wood dominate the palate, with sour notes discernible on the sides and the tip. Towards the end, a short, melon rind-like note emerges and fades away quickly. The finish is clean and woody.

Honey muskalel tones.

Excellent Darjeeling tea from the summer harvest, a high-quality leaf with a reasonable amount of tips, a complex, full taste with blooming sweet and slightly honey muskalel tones.

Lightly Muscatel II Flush

Likes : High Quality.

Best Served : Anytime, Morning.

If this tea wasn't named a muscatel I'm not sure I would be able to pick out that quality in a blind tasting. (I have found most autumnal teas to have more "muscatel" qualities than this one). That being said, this is a nice, woody, summer tea. The posted tasting notes are spot on. It is not memorable, but it is still a high quality tea.

Exquisite well rounded tea

This tea wowed me with it's full hearty liquor and unique aroma and taste. It's best to be brewed at 90F and produces a deep amber colored cup. This is a decadent tea, warming and soothing on the palate, with sweet undertones of hay and fruit and a long muscatel finish.

comfortably familiar with a fresh twist

Likes : Great Aroma, High Quality.

Dislikes : Bitter if Over-Steeped.

This is the second tea I've tried from TeaBox. And wow, does this kick other black teas I've had out of the water. Being that I mostly drink black tea, I can clearly see the difference between this and the kind I'm used to (in bags off the grocery store shelf). At first I thought it was way too strong, but after a few more sips I got used to it. I definitely need one teaspoon full more of sugar than I would usually add. But if I was having it with a sweet desert, that would balance out the natural flavor. In all it's a well rounded, classic black tea. The name fits.

Hearty black tea, strong and caffeinated. Smooth, well balanced, with a slight sweet aftertaste. Great in the morning!

Enjoyable but not delectable

Likes : Freshness, Smooth Body.

Dislikes : Weak.

Best Served : Evening.

The steeped tea liquor with its lovely plum-red color effuses plenty of floral notes. On the palate, its smooth, with a pronounced floral aroma enveloping the palate. However, it lacks a pronounced body or a lingering aftertaste. Hence, i was slightly disappointed with it. Though, its very drinkable.

Great aroma

This tea is vey high quality and always produces a superior cup of liquor. The color is a deep red after steeping and definitely has a distinct aroma of a muscatel grape. This tea is very popular among my friends and with good reason. It has a very unique flavor profile and produces a very pleasing sensation on the palate.

Classic muscatel flavor

This is what I look for in a Darjeeling tea. Plenty of that "China bush" muscatel aroma and flavor. A little dry, with a lingering aftertaste. Highly recommended.

Savour your tea moment

This is indeed very special. It was my second favourite in the samples of all Muscatel teas (my favourite being teabox's own blend) so I ordered a larger quantity. This tea is a real treat real with beautiful clean floral notes and lots of sweetness. Take care not to oversteep or overindulge on the quantity of leaves you brew. It can become too overpowering and the floral notes are lost. It also is beneficial to stick to 90 degrees for the water temperature and under steep a little if you are a sensitive about bitterness. Let the tea cool slightly. I found that I appreciated it so much more when it wasn't super hot.

Muscatel heaven with a good measure of earth

Highly perfumed and enticing. The nectar is powerful, sweet and succulent, with a touch of astringency. For me, not everyday fare, but an exquisite, special occasions tea

One of the best Darjeelings. Absolutely delicious cup of fragrant, full flavoured muscatel and as fresh as you can possibly get. Not to be missed.
