Nestled along the northern banks of the Brahmaputra near Tezpur, Chardwar Tea Estate draws its name from the poetic “four doors to heaven.” Once owned by Maharaja Pradip Chandra Bhanj Deo, the king of Mayurbhanj who was a reformer and philosopher, the estate thrives in Assam’s subtropical climate—marked by hot summers, humid monsoons, and fertile, rain-fed soils. Since 2015, Tea Promoters India has stewarded its revival, introducing a modern tea factory while staying true to orthodox tea-making traditions.
