Castleton Moonlight Spring White Tea

description

This year we were drawn to the subtlety of Castleton’s white tea. A late-harvest tea, it has the characteristic floral flavor that's expected from all top-of-the-line Darjeeling whites. Along with that, comes an unexpected but pleasant flavor of oak wood. These two notes – wood and geranium – come together perfectly, and deliver a superlative white tea experience.

the experience

liquor

aroma

Lifted note of geranium followed by hints of wood

Light yellow

taste

Clean and balanced notes of oak wood and geranium define the cup. A pleasant woody length is accentuated, throughout, by the crisp, fragrant notes of geranium. In addition, hints of melon seed can be picked out in the aftertaste alongside the soft woody-floral attributes. The second steep is sweeter and has a more pronounced flavor of geranium in it.

COMPLEMENTS

Best enjoyed on its own or with a vanilla cake.

Pineapple?

Likes : Unique Flavor Profile.

This is an expensive but lovely tea which I tried as a sample. I really do not have a developed palate but to me it had hints of pineapple?? You do need to use generous amounts of leaves (usual with white teas for me). I would have liked to try a few more cups but my sample ran out and I'm not sure I would stretch to this price for a white tea, lovely as it is. I could detect no bitterness.

Exquisite!

This tea is lovely. The first brew definitely has nuanced citrus notes, while the second brew is decidedly floral. It's a great tea to have any time of day, especially when you want something light and refreshing. You can tell it is a quality white tea by the subtle depths of flavor. Highly recommend.

A very good, light-tasting tea, but...

Likes : Freshness.

OK, I'm no connoisseur, and maybe I am being a little fussy here as this is certainly a very fine tea, but my first 'brew' left me a little unimpressed. After some experimenting, I found this tea really benefitted from the second and third steep... maybe a little more tea than the recommended amount is needed, or a longer steep time. The leaves in my sample pack had a little too much stalk/stem - maybe this has also left the flavour a little undeveloped? I would have given three stars, but I'm not sure my pack was a fair representation. (Drunk without milk or sugar)

Like all white teas, this is a delicate tea. However, the nuances of flavor are lovely. It's refreshing and bright. Very smooth, with a note of citrus on the front end. You can tell its high quality - it's a tea to be savored and enjoyed. I can't wait for my next cup.

Maharaja of Teas!

This is an all-star tea. Anyone who has seen or tasted the best teas in the world will immediately recognize the quality that this tea has. The flavor profile is completely unique and reminds me somewhat of grapes or cantaloupe. If steeped correctly, the resulting liquor will be almost gold in color. I especially liked how delicate this tea felt on the palate and how the aftertaste last for a long time after drinking. This tea can be drank anytime during the day as it has a very low caffeine level. I would recommend this tea to beginners and connoisseurs alike.
